  • The Latest Review of The Peanut Mill ★
Sent on the 30th of March, 2010
It is odd that I would have a similar experience in 2010 that another customer had in 2005. This was my first visit to the Peanut Mill. I, too, was not made to feel welcome. The staff lady at the checkout was friendly with a regular customer however, as I perused the aisles looking at their selection, neither of the two ladies in the store bothered to acknowledge me or ask me if I needed any help. In fact, as I was looking at their meats hoping to find out more about what the chickens were fed and how they were processed, instead of being assisted I was told that it was 6 o'clock and the store was closing. I turned to the lady and asked her if she was giving me the bum's rush and she simply repeated that the store closed at 6pm and that it was now five minutes after. I was so offended (especially as a first time customer) that I just left my cart full of food in the aisle and began to walk out. Before I left I told her that I would not be back and that I had never felt more unwelcome in a store. Here I am, a 32-year-old, recent graduate from law school looking for a whole foods to give my patronage too for the next 20 years and this is how I am treated on my very first visit. And for a health/natural foods store to adopt this model of service is bewildering. In a segment of the food market where customer knowledge is traditionally very low, to not acknowledge new customers or not immediately do all that you can to make their shopping experience easy and enjoyable is a death sentence. I have consulted many businesses as an MBA graduate, and I have never seen a business as poorly run as the Peanut Mill in St.Catharines. Save your money. You can find most of their products in the whole foods section of any supermarket for much less. And you can find in the states for even less (which is great now that CDN money is on par with the USD).
